Woven on a traditional pit loom in Ilkal, Karnataka, the saree belongs to an Ilkal tradition known for the distinctive relationship between body, border and pallu. A defining technique of the craft is Tope Teni, the traditional method of interlocking the body and pallu to create the characteristic seamless join. The broader Ilkal design vocabulary includes Gomi, Chikki Paras and Gaadi borders, along with checks, stripes and geometric motifs.

Here, that vocabulary is handled with restraint: a plain mustard body, a traditional Chikki Paras edge and a vivid fuchsia-and-grey silk Gomi Teni pallu.
