An ivory white Tussar silk saree scattered with small multicoloured abstract motifs, its warm natural ground edged with a thin line of sky blue.
Then the pallu grows into something larger.
Jamdani work forms whole flowering trees — branch, leaf and bloom — turning the end of the saree into a woven landscape.
The gentle texture of Tussar keeps the ivory warm rather than stark, while the sky-blue border brings a cool, clear edge to the composition.
Handwoven on a pit loom in Nabadwip, Nadia, West Bengal. The blouse piece is cotton in ivory white with a blue selvedge.
