That deep teal is the ground of this Jamdani cotton, and across it flower motifs bloom in many colours, woven singly into the cloth.
There is no contrasting border — the teal field runs uninterrupted to its self edge, allowing the multicoloured Jamdani flowers to become the focus. The pallu continues the flowering, carrying the same motif language through to the close.
Woven on a pit loom in Nadia, West Bengal. The blouse piece is teal blue cotton with mustard-yellow stripes, introducing one small note of contrast.
