The green of this Molakalmuru silk is the green of a parrot crossing an evening sky, and the pallu is that sky: purple and pink woven as one shot field, each colour surfacing as the drape turns.
There is no zari anywhere — the saree trusts colour alone. A deep purple skirt border with a single pink stripe holds the edge, the way a branch holds the bird.
Handwoven on a traditional pit loom in Molakalmuru, Karnataka, the saree belongs to a weaving tradition worked in fine mulberry silk and known for its lustrous texture, subtle shot effects and intricate three-shuttle weaving. Here, that play of colour is especially visible in the purple-and-pink shot pallu, shifting between tones as the silk moves.
