A silk linen saree from Nabadwip, worked all over with small needle Jamdani motifs, with a thin line of zari and dark purple defining its edge.
The pallu is where the bird walks in: peacocks in blue and green among lotus flowers, woven by hand into the cloth.
Silk linen brings together two different qualities — the crisp character of linen and the quiet lustre of silk — giving the purple ground both structure and softness.
Handwoven on a pit loom in Nabadwip, Nadia, West Bengal. A plain self-colour purple silk linen blouse piece completes it.
